Over the past 3 years, people have been noticing that President Trump’s daughter, Ivanka, has a special place. She is part of his cabinet and is obviously part of his inner circle. There have been a couple of times when they have tried to include her in international events as an integral member of the administration. I believe that this is part of the longer term succession plan for the Trump family.
In spite of their “anti-royalty” platform, the American people consistently prefer a brand name to lead them, the obvious examples of the Bush and Clinton families. So, pater Trump does not really care if Ivanka is successful or not, or whether her opinions matter in the current global political environment. He only wants her to have visibility, so that when the opportunity arises, people can conceptualize yet another Trump as the leader.
And after a couple of election cycles, the Republicans can nominate the brand name, knowing it will have the familiarity effect. They will also be able to jump on the band wagon and cry “See, we can have a woman leader, too”.
Based on her performance at these dog-and-pony shows, and the lack of respect that she was given, it seems like a bad idea. But it will be up to the American people to decide whether they want a monarchy or not.
